Na'ema
Na'ema (she/her) of Aaliyah Dance studied dances of the Middle East and northern Africa learning Raks al Sharki, or 'belly dance', since she was a teenager. * Na'ema has a love of the music and dances of these regions. Dance is joy! "What a pleasure to share my joy of belly dance with others."
Aaliyah Dance & Friends
Na'ema leads a variety of events and is the creator, director and organizer of the annual fundraising Hafla! (party/dance show) series with dancers from all over Eastern Ontario in support of Leeds & Grenville Interval House and Victim Services of Leeds & Grenville. These shows led to the creation of Aaliyah Dance & Friends which is a network of dance artists that join in support of victims of violence. The Hafla! Series of shows were created to help target the issues surrounding domestic violence and sexual assault. Funds remain within the community and currently support Victim Services of Leeds and Grenville. The leadership of Aaliyah Dance & Friends comprises of Karen Elizabeth & Elizabeth Smith. The committee is comprised of Angelina Thorne, Erika Meredith, Jillian Cameron and Rozanne DeSilva.
*Na'ema also has a background in Ballet, American Jazz, Martha Graham modern dance, African and dances of the Caribbean.
